The update

If you follow this log you know I have been looking for my music for a quite a while now.

It’s been 3.5 years since I wrote that post and my skills, perspective, and attitude keep evolving.

I’ve had my ups and downs with farming, woodworking, and beekeeping. I’ve got more experience with those fields now, but also, which is more important to me, I know what works for me and what doesn’t.

And as it turns out I’ve been actually looking for something more important all along.

My Music is likely not one of the above, but rather a pursuit of basic principles.

Let me explain: Now I know I am not truly interested in becoming a farmer, but understanding the ways of growing things. I keep observing how it’s done and keep asking myself, to quote Masanobu Fukuoka, “why we keep doing this or that?”. That “keep asking” piece is crucial here, because when looking for basic principles it’s important to question how things are done.

In the past 3 years I failed miserably at being a beekeeper. But what I haven’t failed at is understanding why I failed, and I’ll be back on track next year of actually doing it better. I also understood that I’m not interested in keeping bees to sell honey, but rather than that to let them live the way they want.

When it comes to woodworking I keep learning by building things: my first beehive, garden gazebo, or patio. My manual skills are so much better these days and I love it. I also got understanding how vast is the field and a realisation I’ll be learning new things for years to come.

I use this mix of experiences to zero on fields’ basic principles.

The missing piece

Ever since I wrote the first part of the story, I have been thinking about the missing part of it.

There’s actually a fourth piece I have been involved in far longer than the three above, and it’s bread baking.

It’s been now 8 years since I baked my first sourdough bread, and I’m loving the results while being quite solid at understanding it’s basic principles now.

Since it’s a hobby I can pursue spending 15 minutes a day on it, over the years baking bread became very natural to me. These days I do it without much thinking anymore.

There are some stories I was encouraged to share, so you’ll hear more about it soon.

The future

I don’t know what it holds, but I know what I’m looking for.

Next year will bring a new chapter in farming, beekeeping, and bread baking (in progress already).

I will also continue exploring woodworking by building things.

I’ll let you know how it goes.
