Posts » Saying no
Over my career in IT I turned down many offers, sometimes based on location or technology, but mostly based on employer’s industry.
Choosing who to work for boils down to the question whether employer’s business is fairly moral or not. So if you come to me with an offer in gambling, investment banking (if that’s any different from the previous one), pharmaceutics, weapons, or gaming industries, it’s an instant no. I don’t care how much money, how cool benefits, or an amazing relocation package you offer, your business model sucks and I truly doubt you can be proud about it.
If the industry you’re recruiting for is not listed above but your practices are shady at best (think Elsevier or Monsanto) I’ll be a sound no as well.
End of story.
